O’LEARY — Kim Dolan and her Charlottetown Curling Complex team of Susan McInnis, Sandy Matheson and Julie Scales are all first-time winners of the P.E.I Credit Unions Senior Women’s Provincial Curling Championship.
Lead Julie Scales on the Kim Dolan rink delivers a stone during the “C” event final of the senior women’s curling championship Sunday in O’Leary. Dolan claimed the title with an undefeated record.
They claimed the title with an unblemished 4-0 record in the four-team modified triple knock-out championship Sunday at the Maple Leaf Curling Club in O’Leary. Three of their wins. including their 8-4 decision in Sunday’s “C” event final, were against Charlottetown’s Shelley Ebbett foursome. Ebbett finished with a 3-3 record.
Second stone Sandy Matheson won a provincial title without throwing a stone or putting a broom to a rock. She watched from behind the glass after tweaking a back injury the day before the provincial championship was to start, leaving Dolan to rely on two sweepers the whole weekend.Matheson said she will be working hard to get her back in shape for the nationals next month in Digby.
The P.E.I. men’s team that will be joining them in Digby is still to be decided, but it is known two members of last year’s championship team will be there. The two men’s teams still in contention, the Rod MacDonald rink from the Silver Fox and Charlottetown clubs and the Blair Weeks rink from Charlottetown both have two members of last year’s winning team – MacDonald and his mate Kevin Champion and Weeks and his lead, Mark Victor – on their rinks.
