Three undefeated girl’s teams after Advantage Communications Under 16 Ch’ships Opening Day

advantagecomm800Two round robin draws are complete following opening day play at the Advantage Communications Under 16 Curling Championships at the Charlottetown Curling Complex, with seven girl’s teams taking part. The first draw, at 2 pm Friday, was held at the Cornwall Curling Club.

Three teams remain undefeated, with the Lauren Lenentine rink at 2-0, and the Rachel MacLean and Lauren Ferguson foursomes at 1-0. Cornwall’s Lenentine, who won the U18 on Sunday, is playing with third Kristie Rogers from the Lauren Moerike U18 rink, and has a much younger lead and second in this event. She scored two convincing victories on opening day, both by 11-3 scores, over Cornwall’s Emma Coffin, and Katie Shaw from Charlottetown. Cornwall’s MacLean stole a triple and a single in an 8-7 shading of Montague’s Emily Sanderson, while Ferguson, from the Silver Fox and Crapaud clubs, won a close 5-4 decision over Cornwall’s Alexis Burris squad, who won their opener 5-4 over Shaw. Coffin joins Burris at 1-1, thanks to a 9-6 win over Sanderson, who, along with Shaw, is 0-2.

Saturday games are at 10 am, and 2 and 6 pm, with the event wrapping up Sunday with draws at 10 and 2. There are no playoffs  –  final rankings will be determined:

  1. By wins and losses of a team;
  2. If teams are tied, the head to head results of tied teams will be used;
  3. If teams are still tied, the cumulative last stone draw measurements (minus the highest draw) will break the tie.

Closing ceremonies will follow the 2 pm Sunday draw, with presentations to the girl’s winner and runner-up teams, and to the Mitchell Schut team from Cornwall, who, as the only entry, won the boy’s section by default.
