Infrastructure Upgrades Coming to Montague Recreational Facilities

Improvements to curling rink, pool facility and community rental room will benefit residents and visitors

Communities need a variety of public infrastructure for people to come together both socially and recreationally, and these facilities are often the foundation of a strong and healthy neighbourhood. In the Town of Montague, groups like the Montague Regional Athletics Complex Association, the Town and Country Aquatics Plus (TCAP), and the Community Welfare League of Montague are working hard to improve their respective facilities to better serve patrons for many years to come.

The Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food and Member of Parliament for Cardigan, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), today joined the Honourable Allen Roach, Minister of Finance, and representatives from the three organizations to announce provincial support, and federal funding through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP 150).

  • The Montague Regional Athletic Complex Association will receive $112,702 through CIP 150 to carry out upgrades to the Montague Curling Club. Work includes roof replacement, interior and exterior upgrades, and energy efficient LED lighting. The Association will match the federal funding for this project.
  • TCAP has received $105,550 through CIP 150 to carry out upgrades to its pool and recreation facility. Work included heating, plumbing, and electrical upgrades to the pool, and fitness and community areas. A number of interior and exterior upgrades will improve safety and accessibility at the facility. The organization will match the federal funding for this project.
  • The province will provide TCAP with $80,000 in repayable funding for the purchase of equipment and a $15,000 grant to assist with capital improvements to the facility.
  • Community Welfare League of Montague will receive $12,000 through CIP 150 to carry out upgrades to the community room at the Cavendish Farms Wellness Centre. Work includes the installation of a heat pump to provide air conditioning, humidification, and heating for the rental space as well as improvements to the food and beverage area. The organization will match the federal funding for this project.
