Clara Jack rink steals final end to win KFC U13 Ch’ship

The Clara Jack rink from the Cornwall Curling Club were trailing the undefeated Cruz Pineau team from the host Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Community Complex 5-2 after 4 ends of the six-end KFC Provincial Under 13 Open (any combination of boys/girls) Curling Championship this afternoon in Summerside, but scored a deuce in end five and stole another two points in the sixth end to win by a 6-5 score. Both teams won their semi-final games by 6-3 scores, with the Pineau rink defeating Grace Bulger from Charlottetown and Cornwall, and the Jack foursome beating Shyanne Gallant and her Silver Fox team. The Jack and Pineau teams have competed in a number of events this season, including the Future Scotties/Tankard, where Pineau went 3-0, the Under 16 championships, and the Saturday morning U16 developmental league in Cornwall.

Other members of the winning Jack team are third Beth Walsh, second Aurora Ulvstal, and lead Darrah MacLeod, with coaches Aleya Quilty and Hanny MacLeod. The runner-up Pineau rink includes third Brock Rochford, second Noah Gallant, and lead Brayden Snow, with coach Shelley MacFadyen.

The Sportsmanship award, as voted on by all the players, and the Coaching award, as voted on by the coaches were presented at the closing ceremonies, with Ella Lenentine, third on the Grace Bulger team from Charlottetown and Cornwall winning the Sportsmanship award, and John Martin, co-coach of the Ella Gavin rink from O’Leary’s Maple Leaf Curling Club winning the Coaching award.

Nine teams took part in the championship.
