Final qualifiers from Road to the Roar in Summerside to be decided Sunday

SUMMERSIDE – Krista McCarville’s Olympic dreams are alive and well.
McCarville arned one of two women’s berths in the Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings in Ottawa from Dec. 2 to 10.

McCarville and her Thunder Bay, Ont., team punched their ticket to the nation’s capital in Saturday night’s draw at the Home Hardware Road to the Roar Pre-Trials at Eastlink Arena. McCarville defeated Briane Meilleur of Winnipeg 7-5 in the A section final.

In the semifinals on Saturday afternoon, McCarville counted three deuces in an 8-4 win over Edmonton’s Kelsey Rocque while Meilleur defeated Julie Tippin of Woodstock, Ont., 7-5

Saturday night Tippin defeated Calgary’s Nadine Scotland 7-3, and Rocque doubled Sherry Middaugh of Coldwater, Ont., 6-3. Tippin and Rocque will meet in the B section semifinal on Sunday at 9 a.m. The winner will take on Meilleur at 2 p.m. to decide the second women’s qualifier for the Roar of the Rings.

 Men
The first men’s qualifier will be decided on Sunday at 9 a.m. John Morris of Vernon, B.C., will take on Brendan Bottcher of Edmonton in the men’s A section final.

Glenn Howard stayed alive on Saturday night, posting a 5-2 decision over Jason Gunnlaugson. Howard will face Greg Balsdon of Kingston, Ont., in a B section semifinal on Sunday at 2 p.m.
The winner of Howard-Balsdon will face the loser of the Morris-Bottcher game on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. to determine the final men’s qualifier.
