Updated: Morris advances to Roar of the Rings with one-point win over Bottcher (Journal Pioneer)

SUMMERSIDE (by Jason Simmonds) John Morris and his rink from Vernon, B.C., are headed to the Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings in Ottawa next month. That event will decide the Canadian men’s and women’s four-person curling teams for the 2018 Winter Olympics in February.

Morris, third stone Jim Cotter, second stone Catlin Schneider and lead Tyrel Griffith secured a berth with a 4-3 win over Edmonton’s Brendan Bottcher at the 2017 Road to the Roar Pre-Trials event at Eastlink Arena on Sunday morning. Bottcher will have another opportunity to advance on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. He will take on the winner of Sunday’s 2 p.m. B section semifinal between Glenn Howard of Etobicoke, Ont., and Greg Balsdon of Kingston, Ont.
