Lenentine wins A event at Scotties, MacKenzie takes men’s A at Tankard (Guardian)

CORNWALL, P.E.I. – The Lauren Lenentine rink keeps winning.

The squad defeated Veronica Smith’s team 11-2 in seven ends for its third straight victory to capture the A qualifier at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts Friday in an all-Cornwall contest.

Lenentine and her foursome of Kristie Rogers, Breanne Burgoyne and Rachel O’Connor broke out a 1-1 game with three in the third and stole three more in the fifth to take a commanding 7-1 lead to the sixth end. Smith responded with one in the sixth before Lenentine ended it with four in the seventh.

Robyn MacPhee ended her game with Lisa Jackson with a bang Friday afternoon.

Leading 8-5, MacPhee scored five in the ninth to record a 13-5 win.

 

Men’s

Deuces were wild for Eddie MacKenzie in the P.E.I. Tankard A qualifier, which is also being hosted in Cornwall.

The Charlottetown Curling Complex squad of Josh Barry, Chris Gallant and Sean Ledgerwood defeated Philip Gorveatt 10-7 in nine ends. They scored two in the first, third and fourth ends to take a commanding 6-1 lead. Gorveatt responded with three in the fifth before the teams traded deuces in the sixth and seventh ends. MacKenzie scored two more in the eighth en route to victory.

John Likely doubled Tyler Harris 8-4 in eight ends, scoring deuces in the first, second and fifth ends, in the other men’s contest on the afternoon.
