There are at most three games left in both the Boy’s and Girl’s divisions of the Provincial Under 18 Curling Championships, sponsored by PEI Credit Unions, following play this morning at Summerside’s Silver Fox.
There WILL be a Monday championship round in the boy’s division, as the Mitchell Schut rink from Cornwall, who won two sections, and could have wrapped it up with a win in section C, will not advance to the C final after losing 7-6 in an extra end this morning to the Chase MacMillan rink from Charlottetown. The other boy’s game saw Cornwall’s Devin Schut team eliminate the host club’s Cruz Pineau rink, with an 8-1 victory. The Chase MacMillan and Devin Schut rinks square off in the “C” final at 2 this afternoon, with the winner advancing to the Championship Round on Monday at 10 am and, if necessary, 2 pm. As a double section winner, Mitchell Schut will have a “double life” in the championship round, taking the title if he wins either game, while his opponent, the winner of the C final, would need to win both.
On the girl’s side of the modified triple knockout competition, the Emily Sanderson rink, who won the “A” section on Saturday morning, eliminated her Cornwall clubmates the Sydney Howatt foursome, stealing singles in the last two ends of a close 5-4 game this morning, and advances to the “C” final at 2 pm against B section winner Lauren Ferguson, and her Cornwall, Crapaud, and Charlottetown squad. These two teams will have played in all three section finals. The winner of this afternoon’s game will have a big advantage in Monday’s championship round, capturing the championship with a win at either 10 am or 2 pm, while the opposing team would have to win both matches.
