Snow and MacLean undefeated after Opening Day of U16 Ch’ships at the Fox

The Provincial Under 16 Curling Championships, with three boy’s rinks and five girl’s teams taking part, got underway Friday at the Silver Fox Curling Club in Summerside, with two draws completed.

The host club’s Brayden Snow team is undefeated at 2-0 on the double round robin boy’s side, stealing an extra-end single in a 6-5 shading of the Chase MacMillan rink from Charlottetown, and leading 11-0 after 4 ends in a 14-5 victory over the Samuel Shaw team from Montague.

In the single-round robin girl’s championship, Cornwall’s Rachel MacLean rink, with Sierra Clyke subbing for her usual teammate Amy Spence to meet the age category, sits at 2-0 after cruising to a pair of high-scoring wins – 13-1 over clubmate Ella Lenentine, and 13-4 over the Clara Jack team, also from Cornwall. Jack, and Sydney Carver from Montague are at 1-1, while Lenentine and the Mallory Rochford rink from the host club are 0-1.

Single and double round-robin play continues Saturday with draws at 10 am, and 2 and 6 pm, and wraps up with a 10 am Sunday boy’s game between MacMillan and Shaw. The top two boy’s teams then advance to their 2 pm championship final, while the second and third place girl’s teams will play a semi-final at 10 am Sunday, with the winning team advancing to the 2 pm championship game against the first place rink.
