Curler Tegan Stride named Holland College Athlete of the Week (Holland College)

Women’s curler, Tegan Stride, and men’s basketball player, Jace Colley, have been named the Holland Hurricanes Athletes of the Week for the week ending March 17.

Stride, a second-year member of the Hurricanes women’s curling team, was named to the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) nationals second All-Star team at the lead position this week.

Although the Hurricanes finished at 1-6 and in seventh place in the National Championship, they impressed with competitive games versus the top teams from across the country.

Their lone win came on Friday when they defeated the Fleming College Knights (Peterborough, ON), 6-5.  The team suffered losses to the Augustana Vikings (5-4), Fanshawe Falcons (8-5), MacEwen Griffins (10-4), Douglas Royals (10-5), Humber Hawks (7-6) and NAIT Ooks (6-4) at the championship, being hosted in Fredericton, New Brunswick.

Tegan Stride, of Summerside, Prince Edward Island, studies in the Human Services program.

This was the first time in men’s basketball team history, a player from the Holland Hurricanes was named the CCAA National Player of the Year.

Colley was recognized with the award for his outstanding play during the 2018-19 season.  During the regular season, the 6’7”, second-year player averaged 23.5 points while playing in all 21 games during the regular season; he averaged 31 minutes of play per game.

Earlier this winter, Jace Colley was named a CCAA All-Canadian, the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) Player of the Year as well as a member of the ACAA’s first All-Conference team.
