It was a great start to the season for Cornwall’s Mitchell Schut rink, who went undefeated this weekend to win the Under 18 Men’s section of the Harvest Spiel at the Mayflower Curling Club in Halifax, coming back from a 3-1 deficit after 4 ends to edge the Evan Hennigar team from Truro 6-5 in the Sunday afternoon Gold Medal game. Team Schut scored a deuce in the fifth end, stole another deuce in the sixth, and a single in the seventh to lead 6-3 coming home. Hennigar took a pair in the final end, but needed three for a tie. The event also included a U15 section. Team Schut, with two new members this season after two players left the Island for university, are the reigning PEI U18 Men’s champs.
