Day one is over at the 13th annual Fall Fling Junior Cashspiel, sponsored by Quality Inn, at the Silver Fox in Summerside with 12 junior women’s and an equal number of junior men’s teams, from all four Atlantic Provinces, taking part.
Junior Women’s
Four teams, including the defending champion junior women’s team from the Cornwall Curling Club, now skipped by Katie Shaw, along with teams captained by Brooke Tracy from the Gladstone Curling Club in Fredericton Junction NB, Sophie Blades from Chester NS and Briana Batherson from Lower Sackville NS, who stole an extra end deuce to hand last year’s runner-up Kate Paterson from Saint John her first loss, are still unbeaten on the Junior women’s side, with 2-0 records. Cornwall’s Clara Jack team is 0-2
Junior Men’s
On the Junior men’s side, only the Alex Peasley foursome from the Gage Curling Club in Oromocto and the Liam Marin squad from Saint John remain undefeated, also at 2-0. Cornwall PEI’s Mitchell Schut team, and Brayden Snow and his team from the host Silver Fox club and the Charlottetown Curling Club are at 1-1, as is the Josh Nowlan rink from Curl Moncton, coached by Summerside native Daryell Nowlan.
Round Robin play wraps up on Saturday, with junior men’s draws at 8 am, and 1 and 6:30 pm, and junior women’s action at 10:30 am, plus 4 and 9:30 pm.
