Team Korea, with help from PEI’s Peter Gallant, qualifies for 2020 World Mixed Doubles Ch’ship

PEI curling coach Peter Gallant and Team Korea have completed a successful week in Glasgow Scotland, where Peter helped the South Koreans qualify for the 20-team 2020 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship, April 18-25 in Kelowna BC. The 20-team roster replaces the open entry format which has been held previously.  The 12-sheet Kelowna Curling Club will simultaneously host the mixed doubles and senior events.

The qualifier,  which included 28 World Curling Member Association countries, was held at the Greenacres Curling Club, located just to the west of Glasgow, from November 30 to December 7, and qualified four countries — Germany, Italy, China, and South Korea. The event was the first qualification tournament for the World Mixed Doubles after the World Curling Federation opted to change the format last year.

The top 16 countries from the 48-team 2019 tournament in Stavanger Norway. have automatically booked their place in Kelowna, and will be joined by the four qualifiers. The 16 automatically-qualified teams are Sweden, Canada, United States, Australia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Japan, Russia, England, Spain, Finland, Hungary, Norway, New Zealand, Scotland and Switzerland.
