MacFadyen advances to 2 pm Sat. PEI Mixed “A” Qualifier — will face Blanchard or Koke

The first of three modified triple knockout qualifiers for the championship round will be determined in the 1 pm Saturday draw at the PEI Mixed (Fours) championship being played at the Maple Leaf Curling Club in O’Leary. The Alex MacFadyen team from the Charlottetown Curling Club advanced to that game by defeating the Lauren Ferguson rink from Cornwall 5-3 on Friday evening. Team MacFadyen, who won his opener 8-7 in an extra end over Charlottetown’s Tyler MacKenzie, will face either the George Koke from Montague or Nick Blanchard from Crapaud, who square off in their “A” semi-final game at 10 am Sat. The two-time defending champion Jamie Newson team from Summerside lost their opener 7-4 to the Ferguson Junior squad, but won their second, 10-4 over the Chase MacMillan Cornwall Junior team, and now play Charlottetown’s Tyler MacKenzie rink in “B” action, at 10 on Sat.

Nine teams representing five curling clubs are taking part, with the winning team advancing to the 2021 Canadian Mixed Championship, Nov. 7-15, 2020, at the Canmore Golf and Curling Club in Alberta.
