Round robin play wraps up Sunday night as the 2020 PEI Curling Club Championships, featuring the winning men’s and women’s teams from individual club playdowns, continue at the Charlottetown Curling Club. Following Saturday play, two teams, the host club men’s team skipped by Paul MacCormack, and the Veronica Smith skipped women’s rink from the Silver Fox in Summerside, remain unbeaten with 4-0 win-loss records.

Three men’s teams – Western (Freddy Fraser), Silver Fox (Leo Stewart), and Crapaud (Calvin Smith) are at 3-1, while Stephanie Schnare and the Crapaud women’s team are also at 3-1, followed by the Souris Curling Club (Cara Eastman), making their debut appearance at this event, along with Montague (Erin MacDougall) and Western Community (Wendy Fraser), all at 2-2.
Sunday round robin draws go at 9 am, 12 noon, and 4 and 8 pm Atlantic Daylight Time.
The playoffs go on Monday and, if needed Tuesday, following any tiebreaker rounds, with draw times at 10 am and 2 and 6 pm on Monday and 10 and 2 on Tuesday if needed. If there are no tiebreakers, the respective championship round games move ahead in the schedule. The top three teams advance to the playoffs, with second and third playing off in a semi-final, and the winner facing the first-place team in the final. In the event that Charlottetown men or Silver Fox women remain undefeated during the round-robin, the rules specify that they must be beaten twice, so if they lose their first championship final game, a second one will be played.
Curl PEI is pleased to welcome their newest affiliated curling club, the Souris Curling Club, who curl on arena ice out of the Eastern Kings Sportsplex, and have entered both a men’s and a women’s team. Six of the seven other affiliated clubs, with the exception of the Maple Leaf in O’Leary, have also entered men’s and women’s teams.
