Mitchell Schut rink wins PEI U18 Boys Ch’ship

The Mitchell Schut team made up for a morning loss to their Cornwall clubmates the Brayden Snow foursome with a convincing 10-1 Championship Round win in 6 ends against them on Sunday afternoon to capture the PEI Under 18 Boys Championship at the Montague Curling Club. The Rachel MacLean rink, also from Cornwall swept the Girls division with a win on Sunday morning against the Madalyn Easter squad from the Silver Fox Curling Club in Summerside.

Team Schut, who won two of the three modified triple knockout draw sections and would have taken the title with a win in either championship round game, while Snow would have had to win both, had a 3-1 lead after 4 ends, but brought the game and the championship round to an early ending with steals of four and three points in the next two ends.

During the Sunday closing ceremonies, awards for Sportsmanship and Coaching as voted on by their peers and event officials, were handed out, with Larry Richards, coach of the Sydney Carver rink from the host Montague Curling Club, winning the coaching honours, while Lexi Murray, third stone on the winning Rachel MacLean Girls rink, and skip Isaiah Dalton, also from Cornwall, won the Sportsmanship honours.
