MacFadyens will have advantage in Ch’ship Round, with 1st game moved up to 11:15 at PEI Mixed Doubles Ch’ship

The brother and sister duo of Alex and Lauren MacFadyen were one up coming home without last rock advantage in a closely-fought Sunday morning “C” Qualifier match at the Cornwall Curling Clyb with the defending champion Ed and Jenny White couple, and managed to steal a single for a 9-7 win. This gives the MacFadyens a “double life” in the two-game championship round against their Silver Fox clubmates, meaning they will win the PEI Mixed Curling Championship with a victory in either the first game, now moved up to 11:15 am, or the second, currently scheduled for 3:30 pm. The Whites need to win both games to repeat as champions.

The MacFadyens won the “A” Qualifier of the modified triple knockout draw with a win over the Amy Spence and Jack MacFadyen team from Cornwall on Friday, with Team White winning the “B” over Team MacFadyen on Saturday. Both teams won their respective “C” semi-finals on Saturday afternoon, and met again in the “C” Qualifier match Sunday morning.

In the “C” semis, the MacFadyen siblings beat Crapaud’s Terri Wood and Alan Inman 7-4, while the White couple scored a final end deuce to win 8-6 over the Cornwall team of Colin MacKenzie and O’Leary native Alison Griffin, who previously competed for Nunavut at the Canadian Mixed Doubles Championship.

The winner of the Championship Round will advance to the 2021 Home Hardware Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Championship, March 18-25 at the Markin MacPhail Centre, in Calgary, AB.

Seven teams began play on Friday in the PEI event. No spectators are allowed in the facility for the event due to COVID-19 restrictions.
