It was not the finish the Suzanne Birt rink was hoping for in Draw 6 of the 2021 Scotties Tournament of Hearts on Sunday.
The P.E.I. representative led Quebec’s Laurie St-Georges rink 6-2 after eight ends, before dropping an 8-6 decision.
Quebec scored four in the ninth end with the hammer to tie the game 6-6 and then stole a deuce when Birt’s draw attempt on the game’s final shot rubbed a Quebec rock that counted as second shot.
The result leaves both teams with identical records of 2-1 (won-lost) in the Canadian women’s curling championship.
Birt, third Marie Christenson, second Meaghan Hughes, lead Michelle McQuaid, alternate Kathy O’Rourke and coach Mitch O’Shea have one game scheduled on Monday against Newfoundland and Labrador’s Sarah Hill (2-0) at 4:30 p.m., Atlantic Time.
