PEI picks up 1st win at Brier, plays Team Canada with Islander Brett Gallant today (Journal)

The Eddie MacKenzie-skipped Team P.E.I. scored three in the ninth to defeat Nunavut 7-4 Tuesday for its first win of the Tim Hortons Brier in Calgary.

Nunavut, which dropped to 0-5, opened the scoring with a deuce in the third. After the teams traded singles, P.E.I. tied it with a deuce in the sixth and took the lead by stealing one in the seventh.

Nunavut tied it with one in the eighth but conceded after giving up three in the ninth.

The Island champs play Team Canada Wednesday. Charlottetown’s Brett Gallant is Team Canada’s second.
