PEI teams skipped by Suzanne Birt, Shelly Bradley, and Veronica Smith are on the ice this weekend at the 16-team $10,500 purse Tim Hortons Spit Fire Arms Cashspiel in Windsor, NS, and all three won their Friday opening games, with Team Birt downing Liz Garnett of Halifax 8-1, Team Bradley scoring a deuce in the final end to edge Nancy McConnery and her Halifax rink by a 5-4 score, and Team Smith defeating Kelly Backman and her Halifax squad 7-2. Team Birt went undefeated to win the event when it was last held in 2019. Smith plays Bradley noon Sat. Jill Brothers, with PEI’s Erin Carmody, is also in the event and beat Brigitte MacPhail of Nunavut 8-6 in their opener.
