Savill rink wins PEI U13 Open Ch’ship, with win over Myers team in the final

The four-team PEI U13 Open (any combination of male and/or female players) Curling Championship wrapped up Sunday afternoon at the Montague Curling Club, with Cornwall’s Aiden Savill rink winning the championship game, 9-1 over their clubmates, the Grace Myers team. Both teams finished round-robin play with 2-1 win-loss records to advance to the final, while the Mary Jane Gavin-Shea team from the Maple Leaf Curling Club in O’Leary, and Cornwall’s Kolin Beaton team finished with 1-2 win-loss records.

Meanwhile, at the Montague Curling Club,  the PEI U13 Open (any combination of male and/or female players) Curling Championship got underway at noon Saturday, and wraps up on Sunday, with four teams, 3 from the Cornwall Curling Club, and one from the Maple Leaf Curling Club in O’Leary playing a round-robin, with the top two teams advancing to the championship game Sunday at 2 pm. With one round-robin draw, at 10:30 am Sunday, remaining, the Aidan Savill rink from Cornwall is in the lead with a 2-0 win-loss record, while Cornwall’s Grace Myers, and O’Leary’s Mary Jean Gavin Shea rinks are at 1-1, and the Kolin Beaton foursome from Cornwall had two close games, but didn’t manage to pick up a win on Saturday.

The 2022 PEI Under 13 Curling Championship, an open (any combination of four male and/or female curlers) competition for curlers who are a maximum of 12 years of age on June 30 of the year prior to the competition, is set for the Montague Curling Club on March 5th and 6th, with four teams — three from the Cornwall Curling Club and one from the Maple Leaf Curling Club in O’Leary taking part. Teams will play a single round-robin, with xxx-end games, 1 pool, and no tie-breakers — placement for final positions will be determined first by win/loss, then head to head between tied teams, then cumulative Last Stone Delivery (draw to the button) and finally by Hit, Draw, Tap competition points. The top two teams following placement will advance to the Championship Game.

Spectators are limited to one person per curler per day.
