Suzanne Birt’s P.E.I. rink bounced back in a big way at the 2022 Scotties Tournament of Hearts on Jan. 31.
After letting a 6-1 lead slip and giving up a steal of two in the extra 11th end in a 10-8 loss to New Brunswick’s Andrea Crawford rink, P.E.I. scored two in the 10th end with last-rock advantage to defeat the Emma Miskew-skipped wild-card team 8-7.
The win snapped a three-game slide for Team P.E.I., which improved to 2-3 (won-lost). Miskew, also 2-3, moved up to skip because regular skip Rachel Homan is competing in mixed doubles curling at the Winter Olympics in Beijing.
Birt, third stone Marie Christianson, second stone Meaghan Hughes, lead Michelle McQuaid and fifth player and coach Kathy O’Rourke play Saskatchewan’s Penny Barker (2-2) on Feb. 1 at 3 p.m.
[Update: Team Birt is trailing 9-6 after 9 ends of play.]
On Feb. 2, Birt plays Chelsea Carey’s wild-card team (2-2) at 10 a.m., and closes out the round robin on Feb. 3 against Newfoundland and Labrador’s Sarah Hill (1-3) at 3 p.m.
