THUNDER BAY, Ont. — P.E.I.’s Suzanne Birt rink won its final two games and three of four to complete play in the 2022 Scotties Tournament of Hearts at 4-4 (won-lost).

Birt closed out the round-robin format in the Canadian women’s curling championship with an 8-5 victory over Newfoundland and Labrador’s Sarah Hill (2-6) on Feb. 3.

Although the Birt rink missed qualifying for the playoffs by one game, there are P.E.I. connections with teams in the playoffs.

Former Summerside resident Daryell Nowlan coaches New Brunswick’s Andrea Crawford rink, which finished second in Pool A with a 6-2 record.

Lauren Lenentine of New Haven, P.E.I., plays the lead position with Manitoba’s Mackenzie Zacharias rink. Zacharias dropped a 10-7 decision to Team Canada’s Kerri Einarson (8-0) in the late draw Feb. 3.

That loss, combined with a 7-4 win for the Kerry Galusha rink from the Northwest Territories set up a tiebreaker on Feb. 4 at 10 a.m.
