Sarah Fullerton & Brett Gallant rinks are PEI's Canada Games reps
Sarah Fullerton rink
The Sarah Fullerton rink from the Cornwall Curling Club will be PEI's Junior Women's curling representatives at the Canada Winter Games. Despite giving up a steal of two in the first end, and trailing 7-5 at the half, the team came on strong in the last five ends of the Tuesday evening final at the Crapaud Community Curling Club, scoring a deuce in end six, a four pointer in end eight, and a steal of one in the 9th to defeat Charlottetown's Melissa Gaudet rink by a 12-8 score. Other members of the Fullerton rink are Michelle McQuaid, Hillary Thompson, and Sara MacRae, with fifth Alyssa Mutch, and coach Nancy Yeo. Lindsay Hughes, Kimberly Gaudet, Lisa Moerike, and coach Kevin Moerike round out the Gaudet team.
Brett Gallant rink
On Sunday, the Silver Fox Curling & Yacht Club rink of Brett Gallant, Adam Casey, Anson Carmody and Alex MacFadyen, with coach Kathie Gallant, became the PEI junior men's Canada Games representatives, after winning all six round robin games, and making a final game unnecessary. On Sunday, Gallant edged Sam Ramsay by a 6-5 score in the final round robin game. On his last shot, Ramsay attempted a hit to tie the game, but his shot rolled out of the rings, giving Gallant the win and the Canada Games berth.
Second place was decided in the Junior Men's section on Tuesday evening, with the Silver Fox team of Neil Gallant, Justin Richard, Denis Richard, and Josh Richard, with coach Noel Gaudet, defeating clubmates Sam Ramsay, Darcey Cousins, Eric Pidgeon, and Kyle Gillis, with coach Peter Pidgeon, by a 10-5 score. The two teams were tied at three wins and three losses in round robin play, and the playoff was necessary to determine the runner-up in the competition.
The Brett Gallant and Sarah Fullerton rinks will be preparing over the next year for the Canada Winter Games, which take place in Whitehorse, Yukon, February 24-March 10 2007.
