Jan. 18-The Jeanne Duffenais rink from the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club are the 2005 PEI Masters (60 & over) Women's Curling Champions, defeating the Eileen Blanchard rink from the Cornwall Curling Club in two straight games (9-4 and 9-0) on Tuesday to take the best 2 out of three championship at the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton. Both Duffenais and Blanchard will advance to the Maritime Masters Curling Championships at the Cornwall Curling Club. Other members of the Duffenais rink are Georgie Coulson, Ann Currie, and Wanda MacLean. Jessie MacPhail, Mary Plamondon, and Gladys Wright round out the Blanchard foursome.
Nowlan goes undefeated to repeat as Master's Men's champ
Jan. 25-Defending champion Lou Nowlan continued his undefeated streak, as he beat Silver Fox clubmate Louis Walsh 9-2 Tuesday morning to take the men's PEI Master's (60 and over) championship at the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton. The final was originally scheduled for Thursday the 20th, but was delayed due to storms, and other events at the Club. Walsh defeated Leslie Hardy of the host club 8-6 on Thursday to advance to the final match. Both Nowlan and Walsh will advance to the Maritime Masters Championships, February 13-16 at the Cornwall Curling Club. They'll be joined by repeat women's champion Jeanne Duffenais, also from the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club, and runner-up Eileen Blanchard of the host Cornwall club.
