Undefeated Larry Dewar rink comes from behind to win PEI Mixed in Extra End
The Montague Curling Club rink of Larry and Tammy Dewar, Ross Petrie, and Gail Greene came from behind to edge Charlottetown's Jamie Newson rink 9-8 in an extra end on Monday afternoon at the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton to win the Provincial Mixed Curling Championship. The Dewar rink went undefeated, winning six straight games in the event. In the final, Newson blanked the first end, and scored four points in the second, leading 7-4 after six ends. Dewar scored a single in end seven, stole another point in eight, and a deuce in end nine to take the lead. Newson came back with a single to take the game to an extra end, where Dewar scored the winning point. Other members of the Newson rink are Vanessa Aylward, Mark Waugh, and Michelle Mackie.
The Dewar foursome will represent PEI at the Canadian Mixed, Nov. 19-26 2005 at the Whitehorse Curling Club in the Yukon.
Dewar rink in driver's seat at PEI Mixed
The rink of Larry and Tammy Dewar, Ross Petrie, and Gail Greene from the Montague Curling Club edged clubmate Jeff Nelson 10-9 in an extra end on Sunday afternoon at the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton to advance to the PEI Mixed "B" section final Monday at 2 pm against Charlottetown's Jamie Newson. Dewar, who has won all five of his games, including the ''A'' section final, will take the PEI Mixed Championship if he wins that game. If he loses, he will play Newson again at 7 pm in a sudden death final.
Newson scored five in the first end in an 11-4 routing of clubmate Andrew Robinson in the other Sunday afternoon contest.
Earlier on Sunday, Nelson downed Summerside's Leo Stewart 11-6, while Robinson defeated Larry Profit from the host Western club by an 11-5 score.
