(Mar 12) Charlottetown's Kyle Stevenson rink, which includes third Tammi Lowther, second, Doug MacGregor, and lead Tricia Affleck, beat the Donald Clarey rink from the host Montague Curling Club by a 9-1 score tonight to win the PEI Mixed Curling Championship. Stevenson owned the first five ends, taking two deuces, followed by two singles and a three pointer to lead 9-0. Clarey shook hands after getting on the board with a single in the sixth end. Other members of the Clarey foursome are Kathy Clarey at third, Mike Clarey playing second, and Sherry Kasmarik at first stone.

Stevenson edged Charlottetown clubmate Jody Jackson by a 5-4 score this afternoon to win the B final of this double knockout event, and advance to the championship match against Clarey, who defeated Montague clubmate and 2005 winner Larry Dewar 7-4 in the A final on Sunday.

The Kyle Stevenson rink now advance to the Canadian Mixed, next season. 

(Mar 11) There will be final game Monday night at seven between the A and B section winners at the double-knockout PEI Mixed Curling Championships being played at the Montague Curling Club. A section winner Donald Clarey of the host club lost 7-6 in an extra end Sunday evening to Charlottetown's Kyle Stevenson rink in one of two games to determine the B section finalists. Since Clarey will not be in the B final, the event will extend to the 7 pm draw on Monday night, when the B winner, determined in the 2 pm Monday draw, will take on Clarey. In Sunday night's game, Clarey scored a deuce in the first end, but Stevenson came back with a triple and a stolen single for a 4-2 lead. Clarey tied it up with a deuce in the fourth, and the fifth end was blanked. Stevenson scored singles in six and nine, but Clarey tied it up with a 10th end deuce. Stevenson took a single in the extra for the win. Other members of the Kyle Stevenson rink are Tammi Lowther, Doug MacGregor, and Tricia Affleck.

Stevenson will be facing Charlottetown clubmate Jody Jackson in the B final. On Sunday night, Jackson, and his team of Lisa and Jamie Jackson and Jodi Murphy, defeated 2005 Mixed winner Larry Dewar from the host Montague club 8-5 to advance.
Dewar lead 5-4 after seven ends, but Jackson recorded a deuce in eight, and stole the next two ends to advance to the B final against Stevenson.

Earlier on Sunday, the rink of Donald, Kathy, and Mike Clarey, and Sherry Kacsmarik won the battle of host club rinks for the A final, with a 7-4 win over the Larry Dewar rink. The two Montague teams traded single points until the eighth end when Clarey scored a deuce for a 5-4 lead. He sealed the win by stealing another pair in the 10th end. The other four rinks remaining in the tournament were all from the Charlottetown Curling Club. Kyle Stevenson remained alive in this double knockout event with an 8-3 win over Robyn MacPhee, taking three points in the first two ends, and a triple in the eighth. Jody Jackson built up a quick 6-0 lead, taking four points in the first end, and two in the second in his game against last year's runner-up Eric McQuiggan, but McQuiggan returned the favour with a deuce in the third and four points in the fifth, and trailed by only one point at the half (Jackson took a single in the 4th). Jackson came out shooting in the second half, winning the next three ends for a 10-6 lead. McQuiggan narrowed the gap with a deuce in the ninth, but managed to steal only one point in the 10th, to lose by a 10-9 score.

The winner of Monday's 7 pm final between Clarey and the B final winner will advance to the Canadian Mixed next season.
