The final eight teams have been chosen, as the Labatt Tankard Men's Provincial Championships move from Montague to Crapaud.
On Tuesday evening, the Jody Jackson rink from the Charlottetown Curling Club edged out Dusty McLure from the host Montague club 5-4 in an extra end to capture Qualifier #5.
Charlottetown's Kevin Champion defeated Grant Somers of the Silver Fox 8-6, to take Qualifier #6.
Blair Weeks downed Charlottetown clubmate Robert Brown 9-3 to take the 7th Qualifier, and Rod MacDonald of the Silver Fox grabbed Qualifier #8, with a close 7-6 victory over Clair Sweet of O'Leary's Maple Leaf club.
Robert Campbell and Peter MacDonald, both from the Charlottetown Curling Club, are Qualifiers #3 and #4.
Tuesday afternoon, Campbell defeated clubmate Jody Jackson 5-3, and Peter MacDonald downed Grant Somers of the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club 7-3.On Monday, defending champion Andrew Robinson of the Charlottetown Curling Club, and Mike Gaudet of the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club became the first two qualifiers for the "Final 8" next weekend in Crapaud.
Robinson defeated clubmate Jody Jackson 9-8 in an extra end Monday evening at the Montague Curling Club. Jackson had the hammer, but their final rock curled too far, and, after a measurement, Robinson stole the end to take the first Qualifier position.
It took an extra end for the Gaudet rink as well, as they made the draw on the last rock to edge Silver Fox clubmates the Grant Somers rink 7-6, and grab the second Qualifier position.
Winners of all eight Qualifiers advance to the "Final 8" playdowns beginning on Friday at the Crapaud Curling Club.
This website will have linescores after every draw during the "Final 8's".
GAME SCHEDULE AND RESULTS
In the Open Playdowns, draws are at 9, noon, 3, 6 and 9 on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday January 26-28th, 2, 5, and 8 on Monday, and 3 and 8 on Tuesday the 30th.In the "Final 8", games are at 3 and 8 PM on Friday Feb 2nd, 2 and 7 PM on Saturday, February 3rd, 1 and 6 PM on Sunday, February 4, 2 and 7 PM on Monday February 5th, and 7 PM on Tuesday the 6th (please note: some of these times have changed from the original schedule)
(note that sheets 5-9 are at the Charlottetown Curling Club, which will be used during the first three draws of the Open)
This is a triple knockout event. Teams must lose three times to be eliminated.
