Cornwall’s Mitchell Schut team and the Tegan Corkum rink from the Silver Fox go undefeated to win KFC U13 championships
(March 10) The Cornwall Curling Club rink of Mitchell Schut, Parker MacFadyen, Nick Johnston, and Draven Kowalski, with coaches Mike Schut and Butch McGee went undefeated, with a 4-0 win-loss record in double round robin play to capture the three team boy’s section of the KFC Provincial Under 13 Curling Championships, which wrapped up today at the Crapaud Community Curling Club. The rules specify that, in the event that a team goes through the double round without a loss, they will be declared the winner, without having to play an additional championship game. Connor Lilly and his rink from the Silver Fox Curling & Yacht Club in Summerside finished in second place with a 2-2 record, while the Carson Savidant team from the Charlottetown Curling Complex finished at 0-4. Other members of the second place Lilly team are AJ Cahill, Colin MacLeod, and Aden Moore, with coach Shelley MacFadyem while Tyler Aiken, Liam Kelly, and Alec Huestis complete the Savidant squad.
In the five team girl’s divison, the Tegan Corkum rink from the Silver Fox Curling & Club in Summerside beat the Kristie Rogers foursome from the Cornwall Curling Club 6-2 in the final to take the girl’s championship. Corkum and her rink of Elly Whitney-Coulter, Maddison Moore, and Gabrielle Gallant, with coach Robert Corkum went undefeated with a 4-0 record in the round robin to advance directly to the final. Rogers, and her team of Beth Kirby, Olivia MacPhail, and Rachel MacLean, along with coaches Michele Rogers and Chris Kirby, and the Cornwall Curling Club team skipped alternately by Katie Worth and Katelyn Burgoyne, both had 2-2 win-loss records, and advanced to the semi-final, which Rogers won by a 6-3 score. Meaghan Perry and Haley Matheson, with coach Ann Doucette complete the Cornwall team. Rounding out the girl’s round robin were the Breanna Raynor rink from the Maple Leaf Curling Club in Alberton, and the Bridget Patterson foursome from the Silver Fox, both with 1-3 records.

KFC U13 Provincials and U13 Funspiel
KFC and Curl PEI are again sponsoring two events for the Under 13 age category - the boys and girls provincial championships, from March 8-10 at the Crapaud Community Curling Club, and a fun tournament for beginning curlers, with a maximum of two curlers with two or more years experience permitted on a team, on March 24 at the Cornwall Curling Club. The Owen Collier rink from the Montague Curling Club and the Sarah Parsons team from the Crapaud Community Curling Club are last year's U13 provincial champ. In the provincials, the three boys teams will play a double Round Robin. If one team is undefeated following the round robin then they are declared the winner; otherwise the top 2 teams will play a sudden death final. The five girls rinks play a single Round Robin with the top 3 advancing to the championship round, where second place plays third in the semi-final and the winner of that game goes to the final against the first place team.
In both events, Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals are awarded to the top 3 teams. All games are 6 ends in the Provincials, and 4 ends in the fun tournament.
