VanOuwerkerk and Carmody Capture 17 and Under Crowns The Nick VanOuwerkerk and Erin Carmody rinks from the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club in Summerside swept to victory in the 2004 Provincial 17 and Under Curling Championships Sunday at the Charlottetown Curling Club. VanOuwerkerk and his team of Adam Casey, Mario Freiberger, Alex MacFadyen and Anson Carmody stole a big three ender in the second end and never looked back to beat previously undefeated Andrew Campbell of Montague 8-2. Carmody was the second stone on the team but had to withdraw after a broken arm on Wednesday. Other members of Campbell's rink are Robert Campbell, Matthew Nabuurs, and Kevin Rice. Four Teams tied for second using rules above rank teams 1 to 4, 1 plays 4 and 2 plays 3 then the two winners play for second place. 17 and Under News items: 17 and Under Rink Steals Eight Ender A rare "stolen" eight-ender was recorded recently during round-robin play at the Provincial 17 and Under Curling Championships at the Charlottetown Curling Club. The Nick vanOuwerkerk rink, who went on to win the junior men's section of the event, scored eight after the opposing skip attempted a draw to the button with his final shot, but came up short of the rings.
