Eddie MacKenzie rink runners-up at Hub City

The Derek Ellard rink from New Brunswick beat PEI’s Eddie MacKenzie foursome in this afternoon’s final to win the Hub City Shootout cashspiel in Moncton NB. Other members of the Ellard team are Dave Nowlan, who is originally from Summerside, along with Shawn Mott and Nick McCann. Playing with MacKenzie were Mike Gaudet, Tyler Harris, and Sean Clarey.

Ellard beat out PEI’s Rod MacDonald rink, which includes Kevin Champion, Mark O’Rourke, and Andrew Robinson, in quarter-final play, and advanced to the championship game with a semi-final win over Paul Dobson of New Brunswick.

MacKenzie also beat out a PEI rink, the Robert Campbell foursome, in the quarter-finals. Playing with Campbell were Steve Burgess, Jamie Newson, and Rob Doherty. MacKenzie then beat New Brunswick’s Scott Jones team in the semi.

The other PEI rink in the event, skipped by Ted MacFadyen, lost out to Campbell in a C Division playdown on Saturday and was eliminated from further play in this triple knockout event.

The Ellard team will pocket $2850 for the win, with the MacKenzie rink going home with $1850. Semi-finalists Dobson and Jones will each pick up $1350, with the quarter-finalists, including Campbell and MacDonald, going home with $950.

This 16 team cashspiel wrapped up the Atlantic Curling Tour regular season, with the top 16 teams from the tour invited to the ACT Championship, January 1-3 in Moncton.
