O’Rourke edges Middaugh in extra end to remain unbeaten at SW Ont. Charity Spiel

PEI’s Kathy O’Rourke rink edged three time event winner and last year’s runner-up Sherry Middaugh of Coldwater Ontario by a 4-3 extra-end score this morning to remain undefeated with a 3-0 record at the Southwestern Ontario Women’s Charity Spiel in London Ontario. The first four ends were blanked in this morning’s low scoring game, with O’Rourke taking a single in the fifth, and stealing a seventh end deuce. Middaugh tied things up with a triple in the 8th, and the PEI team, with hammer, scored the winning point in the extra end.

Other members of the O’Rourke team are Erin Carmody, who throws 4th stones, along with Geri-Lynn Ramsay, and Tricia Affleck.

O’Rourke now faces unbeaten Toronto’s Alison Goring at 1 pm Eastern, with the winner advancing to a 7 pm Sunday quarter-final.  The other two undefeated teams are skipped by Rachel Homan of Ottawa, and Marie France LaRouche of Lévis Quebec.

The eventual winner of this 24 team charity spiel for breast cancer research earns a spot in the Canada Cup, Dec. 1-5 in Medicine Hat Alberta.
