Bernard, Sweet, Walsh 2-0 after opening day men’s play at Marco Polo Land Masters

The Marco Polo Land Masters, for curlers age 60 and over, got underway Monday at the Charlottetown Curling Club, with three draws in the 16 team double-knockout men’s division. The defending champion Clair Sweet rink from O’Leary, along with PEI Legion champion Mel Bernard from Summerside, and Louis Walsh, also from the Silver Fox, are 2-0 after opening day play, while Des Arsenault of Summerside and Bill Hope of Charlottetown are 1-0, and play each other at 9 am on Tuesday.

The four team women’s division, which includes the defending champion Carol Sweetapple team from Cornwall, are also playing a double knockout, and begin play Tuesday at 9 am. Play in both divisions continues through Thursday.

Winners and runners-up earn the right to compete in the Maritime Masters Championships, February 14-19, also at the Charlottetown Curling Club.
Winners may also participate in the Canadian Masters, March 30 to April 5 at the Assiniboine Memorial Curling Club in Winnipeg.
