The B final of the triple knockout PEI Scotties Tournament of Hearts provincial women’s championships, taking place at the Cornwall Curling Club, is set for 6:30 this evening, and will be a repeat of yesterday’s A final, with the Kathy O’Rourke rink again taking on the Suzanne Birt foursome, who won the A final 7-4. Another Birt win would give her a big advantage going into the championship round on Monday, as the O’Rourke rink would have to win both games in order to repeat as champions, while the Birt team would go to the national Scotties, February 19-27 in Charlottetown, if they won either.
In the B semi-finals this afternoon, the O’Rourke team, with Erin Carmody throwing 4th stones, scored a triple in the fifth, a deuce in the seventh, and stole a single in the end eight en route to a win over Charlottetown clubmates the Kim Dolan rink. Birt’s game against home town favorite Donna Butler was closer, with the teams tied after 6. Birt recorded a triple in end seven, while Butler came back with a deuce in eight, to trail 6-5. Birt blanked the ninth to retain hammer coming home, and picked up a deuce in the final frame for an 8-5 win.
Sunday and Monday games are also at 1:30 and 6:30 pm, with the C final Sunday at 6:30, and the two game championship round starting on Monday. If Birt were to win all three sections, the Monday games would not be required.
