O’Rourke wins PEI Scotties B final, Dewar, Butler out

The defending champions and Canadian Scotties silver medallists, the Kathy O’Rourke rink, beat their Charlottetown clubmates, the Suzanne Birt foursome, by a 6-4 score this evening to capture the B section final of the triple knockout Scotties Tournament of Hearts provincial women’s curling championship being played at the Cornwall Curling Club. Birt had previously won the A final, with a 7-4 win over O’Rourke on Friday afternoon.

Also tonight, two of the six teams entered were eliminated from further play with Kim Dolan of Charlottetown eliminating Montague’s Tammy Dewar with a 6-1 win, and the Shirley Berry rink from Cornwall and Charlottetown sending the Donna Butler team from the host club home, beating them by a a 7-4 score.

On Sunday afternoon at 1:30, Birt and Dolan square off in one game, with Berry playing O’Rourke in the other. The winners of these games will face off at 6:30 pm in the C final. The two game championship round games will go Monday at 1:30 and 6:30 pm. A team advancing to that round with two section wins will take the title if they win either championship game.

The winner of the championship round will compete in the national Scotties, February 19-27  at the Charlottetown Civic Centre.

Both the provincial and national Scotties Tournament of Hearts competitions are sponsored by Kruger Products and its family of brands, including Scotties® facial tissue, Cashmere® and Purex® bathroom tissue, SpongeTowels®, and White Swan® products
