Nova Scotia’s Brent MacDougall rink wins Canadian Postal

The Brent MacDougall rink from Nova Scotia edged Alberta’s Marc Pouliot foursome 7-6 in an extra end Saturday afternoon to win the Canadian Postal curling championship at New Brunswick’s Miramichi Curling Club. MacDougall had to draw to the button in ten to force the extra, where he was lying one at the back of the button. Alberta came up short on their draw, and MacDougall put up a guard, forcing Pouliot to attempt a difficult in-off shot for the win. The rock curled too much, giving the victory to Nova Scotia.

Nova Scotia advanced to the final with a 9-2 win over Northern Ontario in the Saturday morning semi-final scoring two triples and bringing the game to an early conclusion after seven ends.

Alberta and Nova Scotia both finished round robin play with 9-2 win-loss records, while Northern Ontario went 8-3. Saskatchewan and New Brunswick were 7-4, and competed in a tiebreaker on Friday morning, with Saskatchewan grabbing the final playoff spot with an 8-7 win. PEI’s Bobby Cameron rink did not advance to the championship round, finishing round robin play with a 3-7 win-loss record.

In the Page playoff games on Friday, Alberta scored four points in the fourth end, and stole two in the final frame for a 10-7 victory over Nova Scotia in the Page 1 vs 2, to advance directly to the final. In the Page 3 vs 4, Northern Ontario fought back from a 6-2 deficit, scoring a triple in end eight, and stealing a triple and a deuce in the final ends to beat Saskatchewan 10-6, and grab a spot in the semi-final, against Nova Scotia.
