Sask. steals point in extra end over N. Ont to win Canadian Postal title, PEI’s record: 2-8

The Saturday afternoon final of the 46th Canadian Postal Employees Curling Classic at the Cloverdale Curling Club in Surrey BC came down to an extra end, with the Saskatchewan team coming from behind to score a deuce in end 10 against Northern Ontario to tie the game at six-all, and force the extra. Northern Ontario had to make a draw with the final stone, but it appeared to have picked, and it missed the mark, giving Saskatchewan a 7-6 win.

The winning Sask. team includes Skip: Maurel Erick Third: Dave Kidby Second: Rick Brucker and Lead: Dale Gowen. The runner-up Northern Ontario team is comprised of Skip: Ron Rosengren, Third: Dave Scholz, Second: Anthony Smaha, and Lead: Dave Hudyma.

Northern Ontario downed Alberta 10-2 in the semi-final, while Saskatchewan advanced with an 8-7 win over Alberta in the Page 1 vs 2 game. Northern Ontario eliminated defending champion Brent MacDougall and his Nova Scotia rink by an 11-3 score in the 3-4 game to advance to the semi.

PEI, represented again this year by the rink of Bob Cameron (skip), Eldon Kilbride (3rd), Regan Kenny (2nd) and Mike Bernard (lead), ended play on a winning note on Friday, beating Manitoba 10-9 in the final round robin draw, to finish play with a 2-8 win-loss record.
