SUDBURY, Ont., TSN — Sean Grassie’s Manitoba rink handed New Brunswick’s Sylvie Robichaud her first loss at the Canadian mixed curling championship on Monday.
Manitoba earned two points in the sixth end and three in the seventh for an 11-5 victory. New Brunswick remained in first place at 5-1 after seven draws.
Saskatchewan skip Jason Ackerman dropped a 7-4 decision to P.E.I. (4-2) to fall into a three-way tie with Alberta and Manitoba for second place at 4-1. Kurt Balderston’s Alberta rink needed only seven ends to complete a 17-2 rout of Scott Hamilton of Yukon (0-5).
Doug Marshall’s rink from British Columbia (3-2) needed an 11th end to post an 8-6 win over Chris Sutherland of Nova Scotia (1-4). Mike Assad of Northern Ontario (3-2) picked up a 9-6 win over Gary Alcock of Newfoundland and Labrador (0-5).
Two more draws are scheduled for later Monday.
