Gallant rink loses quarter-final at CFB Halifax cashspiel

The Propeller Brewing Company men’s and SKYY Vodka women’s cashspiels wrap up today at the CFB Halifax Curling Club. PEI’s Brett Gallant rink lost 7-4 to the Peter Burgess team from Nova Scotia in this morning’s quarter-finals, and goes home with $600. Gallant finished round robin play with a 3-1 win-loss record in his pool, while Burgess went 4-0. In the noon semi-finals, Burgess will take on Chad Stevens, who edged out defending men’s champ Ian Fitzner-LeBlanc 6-5 in an extra end this morning. The other semi sees Bruce Lohnes take on Team Suburu, skipped by Doug MacKenzie, after Lohnes downed Chris Sutherland 8-2 and MacKenzie stole a deuce in the final end to get by Shea Steele 6-5 this morning.

The other PEI team at the event, the Sarah Fullerton rink, PEI’s reigning Junior Women’s champs, went 0-3 in women’s round robin play. The noon women’s semis see Kelly MacIntosh play Tanya Hilliard, and Colleen Jones play defending women’s event champion Marie Christianson.

The men’s and women’s finals are at 3 pm.
