Calgary’s Crystal Webster rink, which includes PEI natives Erin Carmody at third, and Geri-Lynn Ramsay at second, edged the Swiss Michele Jaeggi foursome by a 4-3 score Saturday night to advance to today’s 9 am (1 pm Atl.) quarter-final round of the 32 team Prestige Hotels & Resorts Curling Classic in Vernon BC. Team Webster, who have a 5-2 win-loss record going into the quarters, advanced to last night’s C-event final by stealing a single point in the final end of a 4-3 win over 2010 event winner Cheryl Bernard of Calgary.
The semis go at noon (4 Atl.) with the final at 4 pm (8 pm AT). The other qualifiers are skipped by Anna Sidorova (Russia), Mirjam Ott (Switz.), Valerie Sweeting (Edmonton), Satsuki Fujisawa (Japan), defending champion Shannon Kleibrink of Calgary, Renee Sonnenberg of Grande Prairie AB, and Edmonton’s Heather Nedohin.
Here’s the cash breakdown for this event: $: 1st: $7,500 2nd: $5,50 3/4: $4,000 5-8: $2,000. Round robin pay per win: $100.
The Webster foursome, who recently launched their new website at www.teamwebster.ca, are back home in Calgary next weekend for the $54,000 Curlers Corner Autumn Gold Curling Classic, a Grand Slam event won last year by the Cathy Overton-Clapham rink, and taking place Oct. 5-8, hosted by the Calgary Curling Club.
