There’s one Islander still playing at the JSI OVCA Junior Superspiel in Ottawa. The Kyle Doering rink, which includes Stratford native Chris Gallant, who is currently attending school in Winnipeg, beat the Jason Camm team from Ontario 8-5 Saturday night to advance to this morning’s qualifier game against Nova Scotia’s Scott Babin rink, who are the defending champions in the event, at 10 am Atlantic Standard Time, with the winner advancing to the 1 pm quarter-finals.
Cornwall’s Veronica Smith team lost 3-1 to the American Cory Christensen foursome last night, and did not advance to this morning’s qualifier round.
On the men’s side, reigning Canadian Junior Champion and World Bronze Medallist Matt Dunstone of Manitoba was the “A” qualifier after beating local team Colton Daly. Team Daly responded by winning the “B” qualifier match against Scott Babin from Nova Scotia.
