The PEI Under 18 curling champions, the Jenny McLean and Alex MacFadyen rinks, both from the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club in Summerside, came home with bronze medals from the Atlantic Under 18 Curling Championships, held over the weekend at the Gage Golf and Curling Club in Oromocto NB.
The Alex MacFadyen rink includes third James Dalton, second stone Matthew MacDonald, and lead Parker MacFadyen, with coach Dave MacFadyen.
Third Lauren MacFadyen, second Ava Whitney-Coulter, and lead Emily Vaniderstine round out the McLean team, which is coached by Dr. Don Vickerson.
Team New Brunswick (Liam Garcia) beat Team NS (Matthew Manuel) 7-2 in the Men’s final, with PEI edging the host team (Peter Robichaud) 5-4 in the bronze medal game. On the women’s side, the host team, skipped by Samantha Crook, went through round robin play undefeated, and won the final 7-1 over Team New Brunswick Jamie Ward), while Team PEI downed the Newfoundland and Labrador team,captained by Rebecca Roberts, 10-3 in the bronze medal match. The provincial champions from the four Atlantic provinces, plus a host team, took part in each division.
PEI U18 Women’s skip Jenny McLean won “Most Sports-Minded” player for the women’s teams, and was also selected as First Team All-Star women’s skip.
