It’s a very busy day at the Curl Atlantic Championship at the MacLauchlan Arena of the CARI Complex in Charlottetown, with play getting underway at 8 am.

In Friday women’s play, PEI’s Suzanne Birt pulled out a 6-5 extra end win over Marie Christianson, who has moved from Halifax to Newfoundland and Labrador, Kathy O’Rourke of Charlottetown blanked the Veronica Smith junior team from Cornwall 9-0, Sarah Rhyno beat defending champ Heather Smith-Dacey 6-2, and Sylvie Robichaud beat Kelly MacIntosh 6-4.

Men’s action saw PEI’s Adam Casey lose 6-5 in an extra end to Chad Stevens, while the other PEI rink, skipped by Jamie Newson, fell 8-1 to New Brunswick’s James Grattan foursome. Other scores: Ian Fitzner-Leblanc over Andy McCann 8-3, Alan O’Leary 6, Mark Dacey 4.

In Canada Games play, PEI’s Tyler Smith lost 7-6 to Carter Small, Justine Comeau beat PEI’s Lauren Moerike 11-2, Alex MacFadyen edged. Kaleigh Mackay 5-4 in a battle between Island rinks, Mary Fay (14) over Megan Kearley (3), and Andrew Taylor (6) beating. Matthew Manuel (3).

*Youth is defined as 16 years of age or younger. Senior is defined as 60 years of age or older.
