Six teams, including PEI’s Birt rink, still undefeated after Friday play at Curl Atlantic Ch’ship

Three men’s and three women’s rinks remain unbeaten following Friday action at the season-opening Curl Atlantic Championship being played at the CARI Complex in Charlottetown.

On the men’s side, Moncton’s James Grattan rink is 3-0, while Chad Stevens of Nova Scotia and Marc Le Cocq of New Brunswick are at 2-0. PEI’s Jamie Newson and Rod MacDonald are 1-2, while Eddie MacKenzie is 0-3.

PEI’s Suzanne Birt rink is one of three teams tied for first with 3-0 win-loss records in the women’s section, after handing New Brunswick’s Sylvie Robichaud team her first loss, by a close 5-4 score, in the Friday late draw. Heather Smith-Dacey of Halifax and Stacie Devereaux of St. John’s are also at 3-0. PEI’s Kathie O’Rourke had her 1st loss today, 6-4 to Mary Anne Arsenault this morning, to slip to 2-1, tied with Arsenault and Robichaud.

12 men’s and 12 women’s teams are competing. Saturday draws are at 8 am, 12 noon, and 4 and 8 pm. Grattan plays Stevens in the early draw, while Smith-Dacey faces Birt in the late draw in battles between unbeaten teams on Saturday.

Round robin play wraps up with the 8 am Sunday draw. The semis go Sunday at noon, with the finals at 4 pm.
