Birt, O’Rourke to decide P.E.I. women’s curling title Monday (Journal)

Defending champion eliminated Sunday

SUMMERSIDE – The P.E.I. Scotties Tournament of Hearts is down to two teams.

Suzanne Birt and her Charlottetown Curling Complex rink will face Kathy O’Rourke in the championship round of the 2015 Scotties Tournament of Hearts provincial women’s curling championship at the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club in Summerside on Monday. Birt edged Kim Dolan 7-6 in the C section final Sunday.

Suzanne Birt and Kathy O’Rourke will decide the provincial women’s curling championship at the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club on Monday. The two Summerside natives skipping rinks out of the Charlottetown Curling Complex will meet at 1 p.m.“It should be right down to the last rock,” analyzed Birt. “Both teams are evenly matched, and it should be some good curling.”If the Birt rink, which also includes third stone Shelly Bradley, second stone Michelle McQuaid and lead Susan McInnis, wins that game, they will represent P.E.I. at the national Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Moose Jaw, Sask., from Feb. 14 to 22.

If O’Rourke, Robyn Green, who throws fourth stones, second stone Meaghan Hughes and lead Tricia Affleck win, the teams will play a winner-take-all final at 6 p.m.
