Summerside native completes triple-knockout format with only one loss

SUMMERSIDE – Suzanne Birt jumped in front early, and didn’t relinquish control en route to winning another P.E.I. women’s curling championship.

Skip Suzanne Birt focuses on a shot during the final game of the 2015 Scotties Tournament of Hearts provincial women’s curling championship at the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club in Summerside on Monday afternoon.

Birt defeated Kathy O’Rourke 10-4 in the deciding game of the 2015 Scotties Tournament of Hearts provincial women’s curling championship at the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club on Monday afternoon. Both skips are Summerside natives now curling out of the Charlottetown Curling Complex.

“It was a well-played game,” said Birt, who completed play in the four-team modified triple-knockout round at 5-1 (won-lost). “We were mentally focused, and it was a lot of good shots by all of us.”

“We had a lot of rocks in good positions for our team,” explained Birt. “We made a lot of good shots, and finished the ends off with good shots.”

“It was a tough one for us,” said O’Rourke. “We came out a little flat, and it was a challenge from really the first end.”
