Robert Campbell, Jamie Newson win PEI Tankard openers

It will be Robert Campbell taking on top seed Adam Casey, and Jamie Newson facing West Prince native Tyler Harris in the 6:30 draw this evening at the Curl PEI Tankard Provincial Men’s Curling Championship at the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton. In this afternoon’s opening draw, which was delayed three hours from its original starting time due to road and weather conditions, Campbell blanked Tyler MacKenzie 8-0, while Newson got by Summerside’s Blair Jay 9-5.

End 9: Newson steals deuce when Jay draw facing 3 is wide & light. Newson wins 9-5.
End 8: Newson bumps up his own for 2. Newson 7 Jay 5 after 8.

End 5: Jay hits & sticks for 3. Newson 4 Jay 4. MacKenzie’s hit for blank misses the stone. Campbell steals 1 to lead 4-0.
End 4: Jay draws vs 2- ticks guard & light. Newson 4 Jay 1. Campbell removes 3 with last. MacKenzie blanks. Campbell leads 3-0
