Suzanne Birt to have new team for 2015-2016 season

Reigning provincial women’s curling champion skip Suzanne Birt will have a new team for next season, with third Robyn Green and second Meaghan Hughes, both from the 2014-2015 runner-up team skipped by Kathy O’Rourke, joining the rink, along with lead Marie Christianson. Christianson is from Nova Scotia, where she skipped the provincial women’s runner-up team in 2010, and is a two-time Canadian University Sports (CIS) runner-up skip, and two time Nova Scotia junior champ. She is also the girlfriend of Adam Casey, the skip of the reigning PEI men’s championship team.

Green, a former longtime teammate of Birt’s, curled with her for four of Birt’s eight provincial women’s titles. As well,  Green (then MacPhee) played both second and third for Birt (then Gaudet) during their junior careers, including their 2001 and 2002 Canadian championships, and their World Junior Curling Championship gold in 2001 and bronze in 2002.

Prior to curling on the O’Rourke rink, Hughes was a four-time PEI junior champion skip.

No longer on the Birt team are third Shelly Bradley, second Michelle McQuaid, and lead Susan McInnis.
