Birt, Casey, Gushue playing in cashspiel quarter-finals this morning

Two teams from PEI and a third with a PEI native will be in the money today, as they have advanced to this morning’s quarter-final round at two cashspiels.

The Suzanne Birt rink finished round robin play at the Lady Monctonian at Curl Moncton with a 4-1 win-loss record, and are playing the Mary Mattatall rink from Halifax in the 8 am quarter-finals. PEI’s Shelly Bradley and Kim Dolan rinks finished play with 2-3 records. Other quarter-final matchups: Kristen MacDiarmid vs. Tanya Phillips, Theresa Breen vs. Coralie Duchemin, and Melissa Adams vs. Jill Brothers. No live results are available for this event, but the Birt rink are streaming their game live at https://www.periscope.tv/w/1eaKbEppMdvxX

Birt won the event in 2013.

On the men’s front, both PEI’s Adam Casey rink, and the Brad Gushue foursome from St. John’s, which includes PEI native Brett Gallant, are in the quarters, which start at 10 am Atlantic, at the Challenge Château Cartier de Gatineau event in Gatineau, Buckingham, and Thurso QC. Gushue is playing Quebec’s Guy Hemmings, while Casey is up against Shawn Adams from Halifax, who has Mark Dacey as his third.

Gushue won the triple-knockout event in 2013, with both Gallant and Casey on his team. They were runners-up to Dacey in 2012. Both the Gushue and Casey rinks lost in the quarter-finals last year. The semi-final round is set for 1:30pm, and the final at 4:30pm AT. Event website: http://www.challengechateaucartier.com/index-en.html
