MacDonald’s heading back to curling’s senior nat’ls (Journal)

(by Eric McCarthy)

O’LEARY — The eight-foot was looming large for Rod MacDonald as he settled into the hack for the final shot of the P.E.I. Credit Unions Provincial Seniors Curling Championship Monday afternoon at the Maple Leaf Curling Club in O’Leary.

Skip Rod MacDonald, right, and his mate, Kevin Champion, keep watch as the Blair Weeks team discusses seventh end strategy during the deciding game of the P.E.I. Credit Unions Provincial Seniors men’s curling championship Monday in O’Leary. MacDonald won the game 3-1 and took the triple knock-out championship with a 7-1 record.

If his rock comes to rest there, he would repeat as provincial championship. Come short or go through and the Blair Weeks team would score two and force another game in the modified triple knock-out championship.
The rock made it to its destination pretty much on its own with MacDonald’s front end tandem of Mark Butler and Mark O’Rourke sweeping only to keep the route clean.MacDonald scored the point for a 3-1 win in the defensive-style game.

The foursome will join the Kim Dolan Charlottetown Rink at the Everest Canadian Nationals. Dolan won the four-team women’s championship on Sunday.
